Project WET (Water Education for Teachers)
Date/Time: Tuesday, April 6, 2010 12:00 – 3:30 PM
Location: 19 North Main Street, Portville, NY
Presenter: Amy Kochem, Environmental Educator, NYS DEC
Fee: Free
Description: Project WET (Water Education for Teachers) is an interdisciplinary environmental education program which utilizes water as its theme. The program focuses on providing formal and non-formal K-12 educators and youth leaders with water education training and materials which can be used to promote awareness, appreciation, knowledge, and stewardship of water resources with youth.
Project WET was modeled after its sibling programs, Project WILD and Project Learning Tree (PLT), but is unique in its focus on water and people’s relationship to it. Like WILD and PLT, Project WET teaches students how to think, not what to think about the environment. By giving students the skills they need to analyze environmental issues, Project WET is helping our youth become responsible citizens capable of tackling the water issues we will face in the future.
Expectations: Project WET is a three-hour workshop for educators. Workshop attendees participate in hands-on, minds-on activities both indoors and out. The activities are conducted rain, snow, or shine and participants should dress appropriately for the weather. As a workshop participant you will receive:
- three hours of instruction
- Project WET Curriculum and Activity Guide
- supplemental water education materials
- a certificate for professional development clock hours
WET workshops are conducted by trained NYS DEC facilitators.
